What is Bundaberg overproof? ›

Bundaberg Rum Overproof was first distilled in 1888 and is Australian as it gets. Produced with 100% local sugar cane, this rum is matured to perfection for a mellow and smooth flavour. You'll become captivated by the hints of caramel and molasses. The boldest Bundaberg and cola of them all.

Bundaberg Rum OP is quiet similar to the UP however is blended to 57.7% ABV. The stronger blend brings out more of the rich, intense character that is the signature of all Bundaberg Rum products.

At Bundaberg Rum we believe the Australian spirit is something to be proud of. The same spirit that in 1888 started our story, bringing a couple of mates together to start an ingenious (and delicious) way to use up excess molasses from sugar production to form the Bundaberg Distillery Company to make rum.

An overproof (or barrel strength) spirit is one that contains over 50% alcohol by volume. To put this into perspective, in the United States, a standard drink with distilled spirits is 1.5 ounces and contains about 40% alcohol. In other words, overproof spirits contain more alcohol by volume.

Historically, overproof white rum has been a working man's drink. Older generations drink it with water (never with ice), milk (to coat the stomach) or a bite of cheese.
