Why Late Spring Is The Best Time To Visit This Iconic U.S. City  (2024)

Last Updated

While we’ve all dreamt of a remote spring getaway at one point or another, sometimes keeping your seasonal travels domestic is the best thing you can do time, comfort, and money-wise, and you don’t have to compromise on fun or excitement, either.

That’s especially true when it comes to a place as iconically lively as Atlantic City – the ultimate seaside gaming and resort destination in all of North America.

As it happens, Kayak, one of the world’s biggest metasearch engines for travel, just revealed that late spring is the perfect time to visit the famous New Jersey city based on critical factors like flight and accommodation prices, weather, and how crowded local attractions get this time of year.

And remember, the second-best time to visit Atlantic City, according to Kayak, is early fall, when flight prices jump by a whopping 58%, so if you’ve been wanting to visit the area for a while, it’s in your best interest to move quickly.

Flights Are At Their Cheapest

Both Kayak and Skyscanner have singled out May as the absolute cheapest time to fly from most U.S. airports to Atlantic City, with return tickets starting at just $62 – that’s less than what most of us spend on a lunch or dinner out!

And if you’re thinking – well, airfare for the rest of the year shouldn’t be too expensive either, so what’s the difference? – you’d be mistaken.

The same exact ticket you can buy now for $62 can cost upwards of $250 if you were to get it in, say, July or November, so there’s a lot to be said about the savings you can make just by timing your visit right.

Accommodation in Atlantic City this time of year isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s not ridiculously priced, either.

The average daily rate of hotels in the area hovers around $179, but some decent-quality options are available for roughly $100 a night, so you can keep your options open.

The Suffocating Summer Crowds Have Yet To Invade The City

It’s no secret that Atlantic City can get pretty crowded in the summer, especially during July and August – luckily, that’s not the case year-round.

This May, Kayak estimates a popularity score of 1.73, which, for those who don’t know, means that the city will be just energetic enough without you having to deal with suffocating crowds and endless lines at attractions and restaurants – talk about a win-win!

Still, There’s A Lot To See And Do

While spring, in general, might not be the most eventful season in Atlantic City, May, being on the cusp of summer and all, is still a month that promises travelers plenty of things to do and see.

Kelly Clarkson will be performing at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May 10th and 11th, Steve Martin and Martin Short will be hosting a special on May 18th, while celebrations for Mother’s Day and Mayfest will take place all throughout the city.

The Weather Is Dreamy

As much as low prices and fun things to do can affect the quality of a trip, there’s nothing that makes a spring getaway quite like high temperatures and sunny skies – and that’s exactly what Atlantic City promises in late spring.

This time of year, temperatures tend to range between mid-60s and mid-70s Fahrenheit (18-24°C), which is just perfect for a well-rounded trip that involves both long sightseeing excursions and warm sunbathing sessions on the beach.

Speaking of which, Memorial Day (May 27th) marks the official start of beach season in the city, so if you’re traveling to the New Jersey hub during those final days of the month (or, let’s be honest, even well before that) make sure to pack your bathing suit; a refreshing dip in the ocean might be just what you need to get into that summery mindset.
