To twist or not to twist??? (2024)

I never have 'twisted' - can't see the point with solid-core cable as it weakens them.

I don't 'bend' back either. I've seen enough badly gripped cores this way.

I wrote the following email to Scolmore (major manufacturers), MK and GET to see their responses:

I am wanting to know what method of dressing cables you recommend for terminating in your accessories. This is w.r.t. single core conductors being used in accessories such as Socket Outlets, Switches etc.
Eg:
Should the conductors be folded back on themselves so they are doubled up?
Should two conductors in one terminal be twisted together?
Or should the conductors merely be stripped of insulation and inserted 'straight' in' ?

Only Scolmore bothered replying.

They replied thus:

Dear ****

Many thanks for your enquiry via our website.

In answer to your question we would always recommend that the conductors are stripped and inserted into the terminals "Straight".

Best regards

Barry

I read in some MK literature a while ago that conductors should be inserted 'straight' as well. I cannot find that reference again.

The above is important to know, since when the !7th Edition comes in, Accessories and equipment should be fitted as per manufacturers' instructions.
