Prairie dog on craigslist -- winston/salem area
I hate to see these types of ads; are they legal there?http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/pet/4181078729.html
"10 week old baby prairie dog. Friendly little pet comes with a brand new cage and food.
Asking $200 with the cage or $150 without the cage.(The pictures is not mine but they look the same)"
If this is posted in the wrong spot my apologies....

I don't know what the laws in North Carolina are, but in MOST states, they are protected. The thing that bothers me (and you might run with this, straight to your Department of Fish and Wildlife) is that Prairie Dogs are not native to North Carolina, so I would just about guarantee that they have been transported across quite a few state lines, and THAT is a Felony! Interstate Transport of Wildlife!

From what I have read online tonight, if a species is native to a state they are more likely to be illegal to own as a pet. If they are non-native, not always so much. And if they are from another country, own away! I just found out two common species of fish in the pet trade are illegal where I am and one of those species I have had before, on a number of occasions. BUT if I want, I can get one of a few different species of wallaby, or even a red kangaroo .Originally Posted by Duckman62

For the record, I would never turn anyone like this in; for fear the animal involved would be seized and killed .
