Minecraft Trial Chambers have arrived as part of the Tricky Trials update, after being available to preview via Snapshots (Java) or Previews/Beta (Bedrock) beforehand. These perilous structures present a very unique challenge for players brave enough to venture inside. Here’s everything you need to know about finding, surviving, and looting the new Trial Chamber.

How to Find Minecraft Trial Chambers

Trial Chambers are well hidden, so to find one you’ll need to obtain a Trial Explorer Map from a Cartographer villager of Journeyman level or above.

You can encounter Cartographers naturally spawning in Villages if you're lucky, or you can craft and place a Cartography Table to turn a villager into a Cartographer.

Using the Trial Explorer Map, you’ll be able to see a marker indicating the presence of a Trial Chamber.

Trial Chambers are typically underground, so you may need to dig around to find them!

How to Find a Trial Chamber with Console Commands

Playing in Creative mode and want to skip finding a map? Type

/locate structure minecraft:trial_chambers

to find the coordinates of the nearest Trial Chamber. Note that using the Teleport command to teleport you directly to these coordinates may not place you inside the chamber, so you may want to use Spectator mode to get inside.

Minecraft Trial Chambers

Each Trial Chamber is procedurally generated, meaning no two Chambers will be the same, presenting a unique challenge each and every time.

Trial Chambers are designed to be challenging, so be sure to bring high-quality weapons and armor, plenty of food, and any useful potions you can gather!

It's also recommended to bring milk to clear away negative status effects, and a bucket of water to help navigate traps inside the Chamber.

Once you’re in, the first thing you’ll notice is likely to be the Trial Spawners placed at regular intervals throughout the room. Trial Spawners will spawn a number of mobs depending on how many players are nearby, scaling the difficulty of the challenge up accordingly.

Trial Spawner Tips

  • The design of the blocks surrounding the Spawner indicate which mobs they will spawn.
  • More mobs will spawn as you defeat them, but there is a limit, so try to take them down as soon as possible!
  • Getting close to a Trial Spawner will activate it, so watch out if you’re running away from enemies in case you activate more than one…

Once you’ve defeated all the mobs from a Trial Spawner, you’ll hear a ‘chime’ sound, and it’ll either spawn a collection of loot or a Trial Key for each player.

Note that this places the Spawner on cooldown. and mobs will not spawn until a significant time interval has passed, or a player activates an Ominous Trial - more on that below!

Use these Trial Keys on the Vault blocks throughout - they’re cage-like blocks with faces on them - and they will release a selection of loot.

Trial Key not working? You may be trying to activate an Ominous Vault, which requires an Ominous Key to unlock!

Minecraft Trial Chamber Mobs

There are a few new mobs you may encounter in the Trial Chamber:

The Breeze

The Breeze is a new hostile mob that calls Trial Chambers home, where it uses rapid blasts of wind to blow you away. Not only is this dangerous in and of itself, but the gusts of wind can also trigger traps and activate new blocks found within the Trial Chamber.

The Bogged

The Bogged is a skeleton variant that shoots Poison arrows!

Minecraft Trial Chamber Tips and Tricks

  • If you’ve got an axe, you can use it on the copper bulbs around the Chamber to clean them of rust and make them brighter.
  • Look out for dispensers dotted around the rooms which you can loot.
  • There may be a room with four beds inside which you can use as a respawn point if you wish.
  • Trial Chamber layouts can be multi-layered and complex! You may want to leave behind markers so you don’t forget which rooms you’ve already been in.
  • Break pots to get loot, including pottery sherds.
  • Look out for traps!
  • You may encounter a room with Powder Snow on the floor - if you walk into it, you won’t be able to jump out, and will slowly sink and freeze. Bring a bucket of water with you, and release water on the floor to melt the snow and escape.

Minecraft Ominous Trials

Ominous Bottles may drop from Vaults in Trial Chambers. You can consume these to grant yourself the Bad Omen effect.

A player with the Trial Omen effect active.

If a player with the Bad Omen effect gets close to a Trial Spawner, they will receive the Trial Omen effect, and the Trial Spawner will turn into an Ominous Spawner. You'll see blue flames surrounding the spawner, indicating it has transformed into an Ominous variant.

An Ominous Spawner is active.

Ominous Spawners spawn even stronger Mobs than regular Trial Spawners. These Mobs will often have enchanted gear and armor, making them particularly difficult to take down.
